Throughout history, pearls have carried symbolic resonance—from fire protection in ancient China to the tears of gods in Greek mythology. By the 19th century, they had become coveted emblems of status in Europe’s royal courts. This historic hinged bracelet centers on a 19.41-carat natural pearl and once belonged to the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, born Princess Alexandra of Hanover and Cumberland. A wedding gift in 1904 from her aunt, the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia, it marks a moment of imperial grandeur. Alexandra would become the last consort of Mecklenburg-Schwerin following her husband’s abdication during the German Revolution of 1918.
